Something will have gone out of us as a people if we ever let the remaining wilderness be destroyed … so that never again can we have the chance to see ourselves single, separate, vertical and individual in the world, part of the environment of trees and rocks and soil, part of the natural world and competent to belong in it. ~ Wallace Stegner ~
Most visitors of the Franz Josef Höhe and the Großglockner only look at the surroundings from the terrace. Some of them may even go a short way along the wide footpath high above the Pasterze glacier.
You however will have a marvelous experience of nature on the glacier trail Pasterze. From up-close you will get to experience the landscape formed by glaciers over thousands of years. Of course, all of this under the watchful eye of Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner (3,798m)!!
